GIETHOORN, A VILLAGE WITHOUT ROADS
Meandering down the halcyon lake,
That gurgles serenely and keeps us awake,
Sans wherewithal guide, set the daring sail,
Got lost in a maze, no one let out a plaintive wail.
No point of entry to this Edenic place,
Out of reach, but soaked in grace,
Arcadian and monastery still,
Only sounds of rippling duck’s quill.
A fairytale village on a marshland,
Where old thatched -roof houses stand,
Divergent hydrangeas hues lead the way,
Won’t let ‘whisper boats’ astray.
Giethoorn or “Goat horn” is its name,
Stuck in stasis, a worldwide fame,
Chinese tourists flock at unprecedented pace,
Leaving ‘NI HAO’ everywhere a trace.
Land of water, wooden old bridges juxtapose,
With medieval and city life – bringing to a close,
Devoid of roads, punters sailing around,
‘title’ owed to goat horns founded in the ground.
